This is a 9 hour class. I will be teaching you how to make a fabric and vintage ledger paper 4 signature book (6" x 8") with a wood based front and back cover. I will instruct you how to make a Coptic binding technique to attach the book. I will demonstrate how to make dark medieval book covers using iron paint and rusting and patina techniques to make an aged and ancient looking book. I will also show you how to create images on the pages using photo transferring and painting using images and figures seen in the Illuminated Manuscripts Renaissance books.

In the six hour class I will demonstrate how to plaster, gesso and prep our fabric pages as well as incorporating vintage ledger paper. I will demo how to create our metal looking front and back cover. I will also demo how to do the Coptic stitching. We will start the binding with one of the signatures and let the other signatures dry overnight. The following day (3 hours) we will continue to construct the book and continue working on our pages using mixed media painting and collaging techniques. We will continue working on our pages with paint, stamps, applying plaster with stencils to create beautiful textures. I will also demonstrate how to do metal accents to make the book even more special and precious.

• Assorted fabrics for pages (size 12" x 8") They could be vintage linen and cotton fabrics of various thicknesses
• laces
• putty knife
• olden open acrylic titanium white paint
• fluid matte medium
• gesso
• wood or craft glue
• Brushes: 1/4" angular brushes (golden Taklon) Princeton select (You can pick these up at Michaels, #1 pointed watercolor brush for detail work, a two inch cheap utility brush for applying gesso and matte medium.
• Pencils and charcoal (2b, 4b, 6b)
• awl for piercing holes for binding book
