Prerequisite: Must have basic sewing techniques and know how to use your sewing machine.

This Useful Bag is made with heavy duty canvas mixed with batiks to create a true piece of art. We will use the cutwork process with your canvas choices and designs to create a personalized bag that is all you! Use your own artwork design or use one of my templates. This canvas messenger bag with an adjustable handle is big enough for your computer, art journal or for use as an overnight bag.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

• $45.00 includes everything to make this bag:
• 1.25 yards each of 2 colors of canvas
• 1.5 yards each of 2 colors of batik fabrics
• Thread
• Swivel hooks and D rings
• When you sign up for the class, go to makingendsmeet.com to pick out the canvas colors that you want for your bag. Email your color choices (include number on fabric)
• to me at leslieamccarthy@gmail.com. Choose 2 colors of canvas and 2 batik choices. Your kit will be ready for you when you arrive for class.

Instructor Provided (for use in-class, and to share):

• Custom designed pattern and instructions
• Templates for cutwork designs

Student should bring:

• Sewing Machine - straight stitching is all that is needed (or reserve a Bernina sewing machine from the Bernina Connection for $15.00 per day - call 602-553-8350 at least 14 days before the class. Give them the dates you need the sewing machine and they will charge your credit card at the time you make your reservation. The machines used in the classroom will be available for sale at a reduced price should you wish to purchase.)
• Long straight pins (I like the yellow headed quilting pins)
• Chalk Pencil
• VERY sharp sewing scissors
• VERY sharp small scissors for cutwork - this will make your design work SO MUCH easier!
