Watercolor pencils are portable, inexpensive and simple to learn to use. They are a great way to sketch and paint when you are in a hurry, in a small space or on a train in Tuscany . In this workshop you will be introduced to a many easy watercolor pencil techniques that guarantee successful results. Every technique will be demonstrated and then you will have lots of time to practice it. Once you feel comfortable with the techniques you will be given simple sketches to trace, copy or draw yourself. Then you'll complete actual small paintings of a variety of subject matter including landscapes, interiors, landmarks and pets. With all your watercolor pencil practice paintings under your belt, you'll go on to complete a small painting using your choice of subject from reference materials and photos you have chosen and brought to class. The teacher will be there throughout your process guiding you and providing supportive comments.   Teacher will provide a hand-out with written instructions on all techniques and drawings for small practice paintings and reference materials.  

Supply list:
-A set of 10-12 watercolor pencils - Kimberly is a good inexpensive brand; Derwent, Caran'd'arche and Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer brands are better
-# 6 and a #1 round watercolor brushes
-Watercolor paper: enough watercolor paper to complete 6 (4x 6) postcard paintings
Arches 140 lb. Cold press is the best and comes in 9x12 pads, but you can buy less expensive 140 lb student grade paper if you are on a budget
-A piece of foamboard, heavy cardboard or a clipboard to tape your painting on while you are painting
-Artists or drafting tape
-Plastic container for water
-Thin tipped waterproof pen like Micron, Nexus or Pitt in brown, ochre, black or your choice of color
-#2 pencil
-Soft eraser
-Ruler
-Scissors
-A roll of toilet paper (artist's tissue)
-Photos and reference materials of images (not too complicated) that you would like to make paintings of
