Soldering Basics

Type of Workshop: Process
This workshop teaches the novice student the low down on how to solder nonferrous metals with silver solder. Understanding the how’s and why not’s of soldering will allow anyone to pick-up this necessary skill. Soldering techniques such as: sweat soldering, “T” joint soldering and pick soldering will be covered. Students will have the chance to solder their own metal and to “see” what the metal should look like when the solder will flow.Kit fee of $5 payable to Instructor at class time includes: gas, flux, and handouts
Instructor will provide torch, soldering pads, tweezers and snips.
SupplyList (all students must bring):
- hard wire solder 3”
- medium wire solder 3”
- easy wire solder 3”
- 22 gauge copper sheet 1”x6”
- 00 steel wool or 400 grit wet/dry metal sandpaper
Optional: respirator for soldering
