Wrought Iron Jewelry

Price: This Workshop Filled

Richard Salley

For centuries wrought iron has been used to create functional and decorative items including farm implements, tools, hinges, weather vanes, candleholders, fences and gates to name just a few. In this class we will learn to use some the same bending, wrapping, joining and forging techniques to create jewelry from iron wire. Each person will complete a necklace similar to the one show in the example, plus design templates for several other jewelry item will be included so you may work on additional projects as time permits.

Students should bring one roll of 16 gauge iron wire (usually called "rebar" wire at places like Home Depot and Lowes). Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including round nose and flat nose pliers, wire cutter, small hammer, bench block.  Optional tools: for bending and coiling, "wig-jig" and the "coiling gizmo" are very handy. I will have a couple for you to use, but if you have your own.bring 'em!
