Woven Copper and Steel ‘His and Hers’ Bracelets
$110
Richard Salley

Student level: all skill levels

In this class students will learn to weave wire and incorporate that into a pair of bracelets. The framework of the bracelet is fabricated from steel wire that has been shaped and forged by hand. Cleaning, polishing and sealing of the finished pieces will also be covered.

Supply List :

Spool of 20 gauge copper wire (50-75 feet)
Spool of 16 gauge steel wire (called ‘rebar wire’ or ‘tie wire’) available at hardware suppliers

Tool list:

Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including:
Round nose pliers, flat nose pliers, nylon jaw pliers
Wire cutters (flush cutters recommended) suitable for cutting iron wire…don’t use your best cutters…inexpensive, heavy-duty wire cutters and needle-nose pliers are available at Lowes, Ace Hardware and Home Depot.
Small ball peen hammer
Riveting hammer or chasing hammer…once again, for use on iron wire.
Anvil or Bench block ( bring something for dampening the hammering noise such as a shot bag or towel)
A quick-release clamp with rubber jaws - these are available at Home Depot and Lowes and come in a variety of sizes…the 6 inch or longer size should work fine.

Preparation: in order to limit the amount of noisy hammering required for this class, please cut 12 lengths of the 16 gauge rebar wire each 16-18 inches long and flatten with a hammer. Look at the example bracelets to get an idea of how flat the wire should be…basically the wire should be two - three times wider than it is thick.
