Type of Workshop: Process and Project |
This workshop is a 2 day workshop taught on Thursday and Friday.
Join me for two days in a relaxed, yet busy and fun workshop exploring new ways to create dreamy fabric paintings. Lose your fear of painting as you begin day one learning step-by-step face painting techniques, and then continue painting your choice of images with lots of one on one help during the remainder of the workshop. Learn how to layer and glaze with transparent, Golden Fluid acrylic paint creating depth and interest in your paintings, along with background and texture techniques. You will also learn ways to continue adding collage elements to your finished paintings, as well as how to finish them for framing, or other mixed media options. Come away with several small paintings (less if you choose larger and highly detailed), as well as inspiration and encouragement on finding your own painting style.
Supplies Provided by Instructor include: handout, muslin, fabric brush, patterns, 8X10 color copy of class project, paint texture tools, various other class essentials.
Kit Fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes: fabric painting brush, patterns for painting from my sketches, muslin to paint on, color copies.
Supply List:
Brushes - These need to be firm brushes, such as hog, other stiff bristle
#4 or #5 round (NOT a tiny short bristle liner. Please email if you have questions)
a few flats; approximate widths, 1/4", 1/2" and one a bit wider, about 3/4"-1".
Golden Fluid paints (MUST be Fluid paint -heavy bodied paints will not work for this technique): Burnt Umber Light, Bone Black, Red Oxide, Yellow Oxide, Cerulean Blue Chromium, Buff, - Also, bring a few other colors that you like for painting flowers, birds, trees, backgrounds etc.
Small bottle Matte Acrylic Glazing Medium.
Small container white gesso.
Paint Palette - Flat will work best
Water container
Paper towels or paint rags.
Pencil with hard lead
Hair dryer if you have one. We can share.
Optional items:
Your own sketches or images to paint – they will be traced on the muslin with a hard lead pencil, so line drawings will work best.
Collage elements to add to your painting if desired.
Regular Matte Gel Medium for adding collage elements, and a brush for application.
Printed quilting fabric to paint on. This is another option to the muslin that I will provide.
Sewing machine and thread if you would like stitching on your painting. I will not be bringing a machine.
