The Van Dyke Artist's Book
Date: Friday, August 22, 2003
Time: 9am - 4pm
Instructor: Leslie Parsons
Cost: $95
The Van Dyke process is a photographic process that allows us to use the sun, or a light source, some large scale negatives and a little ingenuity to make some really wonderful prints in rich dark shades of brown on most any surface. We'll be printing on watercolor paper, adding embellishments and then some journaling. This is a wonderful process learned from Carol Panaro-Smith at Alchemy Studios. Along with alternative photography, we'll also be doing some alternative stamping.
These images are so lovely, you will be tempted to cover your whole paper with them. They will become the focal point for departure into a 12 page artist's journal that is subtle yet beautiful in its content and quality.
Well not only learn the Van Dyke Process but also some new ideas for what to do with books and journals. We'll learn about chin colle, negatives and positives, alternative stamping and stenciling, and then some fun creative projects to jump start you on some journaling. You'll come away with a really lovely 12 page artist's journal by the end of the day.
Please be advised, we will be wearing gloves during the photographic portion of this class, and working with darkroom chemicals. Bring an old paint shirt for coverup.
Please bring a basic stamping kit (scissors, Xacto
knife and cutting surface, adhesive of some type (glue
stick or your preference), black dye ink pad, brayer,
black micron pen and pencil).
Suggestions: Bring some stamps you like, and, if you
have them, some embellishments and a transfer you
like. Everything else will be provided.
