Using Copies of old photos, collage and mixed media, we will set the incredible stage of the distant voyager in a small box measuring 5"x 3.5" x 1" that is meant to go through the mail (but these are so remarkable, you may never send it!). We'll be combining travel with postal - my favorite themes as we create the Spectacular - Spectacular on both the inside and outside, front, back, and sides of a small box with an attached lid that can open and stand on it's own - just like a theater! For this unusual project, you are the director, try to imagine the scene you are setting: recreate a travel experience, honor a great adventure, or, using collage, and completely fabricate your own Travelogue theatre such as an "Out of Africa", "Casablanca " or a Parisian "Moulin Rouge" story. Like a stage, our boxes will have a foreground and a background, so try to imagine that as you gather your images (I even included painted curtains on mine!). The outside of our boxes will compliment our travel theme as we go postal. Mr. DeMille, I believe we're ready for our close up. All participants receive a Me & Pete's Travelogue Handbook and the 5"x 3.5" x 1" box.
Supply List : Please bring your favorite supplies and your well traveled images such as copies of photos, maps, book pages/text, ticket stubs, etc. (bring a bunch so you have plenty of possibilities to experiment with - depending on how many people attend - I may have extra boxes!). You will need your favorite glue, an exacto or mat knife, scissors, travel size self healing cutting board, maybe some nice paper to decorate the outside! For the outside bring postage rubberstamps, real postage, to/from labels (the outside of your box could even look like a steamer trunk or a theater suitcase), a bon voyage, or an old postcard. If you have one, bring glue gun (if you don't want to wait to share mine), you might want small rubber stamp letters for the address and patterned rubber stamps to decorate the sides.
Suggested Supplies : Please bring your favorite supplies as well as favorite collage items (use copies of things that are precious to you). Bring different kinds of things in your favorite colors. I like Black and White acrylic, (it's always good to have at least one light color and at least one dark color) cheap craft paints in light blue and butter cream, brush markers in orange and hot pink, yellow black and red permanent markers, some colored pencils, a regular pencil, a sharpener, all kinds of tape, even a little stapler, India ink and walnut ink, red watercolor, a few water color crayons, my rubber stamp letters, poetry books to cut up, Staz-On stamp pads....
