Art Heals!

Free Arts of Arizona brings the healing effects of art to children who have experienced trauma due to abuse, neglect and homelessness.

When children have the opportunity to create and express themselves artistically, here is what they say:

"It feels happy inside! It makes me want to scream and shout!" Marcus, age 10, Multicultural Arts Camp.

"I never thought some yarn and glue could just perk up a conversation with my kids." Frances, a mom from the Strengthening Families Through the ArtsProgram.

"Come back next week! You're coming back next week right?" Kenny, age 5 from our 20-Week Mentor Program.

Through our five programs (described below), young people learn new skills, new ways to express their emotions and a chance to be exposed to the creative arts.

The 20-Week Mentor Program gives volunteers the chance to help children experience a variety of art forms while emotionally connecting with them at a local group home or shelter.

The Multicultural Arts Camp, held each summer, offers 6 weeks of dance, music, theater and art forms from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

The Professional Artist Program showcases a range of art forms, most recently the Culinary Arts through the independent female chef group, Les Dames d'Escoffier, which led workshops in the planning, creation and preparation of delicious and healthy meals.

Free Arts Days are collaborative ventures between art groups like the Phoenix Art Museum who hosted a group of young girls, viewing the museum's fashion collection from the last century and helping them create their own personally designed outfit.

Strengthening Families Through The Arts Program brings parents and Children together in creating art as a family experience, whether through creating masks, musical instruments or other visual forms.

You too can help this worthwhile charity by joining us at The Unraveled Luncheon and bidding on the art donated by our artist instructors. The winning bids will go to help those who need it most - children - and the winners will take home a wonderful art piece created by one of our talented instructors!
