This class is for the artist who loves to use Chinese calligraphy in their art but uses rubber stamps or other ready-made Chinese characters and they would like to use a more organic form of Chinese characters.

Chinese calligraphy is an art form that you never stop being a student. It is about practice, practice, practice. However, once you get the basics you can practice on your own and develop your own unique style and that is the ultimate quest of any Chinese calligrapher.

The morning session of the class will consist of learning the basics. From how to hold the brush, to understanding the relationship between the brush, ink, paper and energy, to the learning and practicing the eight fundamental strokes and the rules of order for creating characters. The afternoon session will consist of learning characters that would be useful in art creations. Kate will also contact the participants before the class to see if there are any special characters they would love to learn to write. At the end of the afternoon, as a reference guide for further practice, each participant will create a Chinese accordion book to put their days work in.

Kit Fee of $10.00 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
Different types of rice paper for practice and for final creation
All materials needed to create the Chinese accordion book with choice of Japanese papers for the cover

Each participant will receive a booklet especially created for the class with the major information and additional information and characters to continue with learning the art form.

Supplies provided by the Instructor for student's use in class:
Chinese ink
Glues
Additional materials for creating accordion book

Supply List:
Medium Chinese calligraphy brush
An ink stone to hold the ink

Kate will have additional brushes and ink stones for those participants without.
