This workshop comes with a dash of divine inspiration! Ever feel like you need a bit of positive energy from a higher power? This is the class for you. We’ll be creating a playful 12x12 inch six-page Latino-inspired fabric scrapbook (literally!) comprised of all our favorite Catholic saints. Not Catholic? No prob! Many of these heavenly icons are used for inspiration, pop culture and all around good energy. This book is a way to harness that upbeat spirit and transform it into a page-turning piece of art.

By using classic images of St. Claire the patron saint of TV to St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost things to St. Francis, patron saint of animals, plus many more – you will create a custom chunky, fluffy, padded picture book dripping with ribbons, medals, milagros, sequins, charms, buttons, fabric pictures, felt and more.

Special features: An introduction to saints in pop culture. This is helpful so you will know the specific characteristics of each saint so you will know what they stand for if you use the images in your art. Other goodies: How to add a pocket in the back to hold a rosary, a picture, prayer cards, and any other small objects; embellishing fabric with glitter; binding the book; collage composition 411; basic embroidery stitches.

Some people finish their book within the six hours and some come close. Either way, I will show you the step-by-step process of putting it all together. You don’t even have to know how to sew. There will be sewing machines (and a volunteer sewer on one of them), fabric adhesive and needle and threads – so you can choose which you want to use, or you can use all three. This is a fun class that will allow you to mix and match colorful textiles, fabric images and more. I’ll also show you how to add more pages in the future if you like!

Supplies Provided:

• Six fabric images of your choice, each measures approximately 4x4-inches. Choose from saint pictures, sacred heart image, printed prayers, printed Spanish headlines, pictures of milagros, etc.
• Six pieces of vibrant colorful Latino-themed fabric to use as the base of your pages.
• Batting to go between your pages.
• Bag of embellishments that include ribbons, charms, gems, sequins, beads, needle and thread, buttons, medal/milagros.
• Scrap fabric, embroidery thread, needles, trims, felt, and clear vinyl.
• Fabric adhesives, hot glue, scissors, two sewing machines and a volunteer sewer will be on hand to help.
• Printed instructions, resource list, as well as a fun fact sheet about the most popular saints and religious icons and what they represent.

Supply List:

• Any desired custom images printed on fabric you want to use in the book. Same goes for trims, ribbons, etc.
• Any desired embellishments: old jewelry pieces, letter beads, etc.
• Pinking shears (not required but they will come in handy!)
• Bring basic tools such as scissors, ruler,pencil or any other specific items you like to use.
