Holy Rollin' Hot Wheels Shrines - WORKSHOP FILLED -

Michael deMeng

Remember Hot Wheels? Those speedy little cars that zoomed across the room, traveling on florescent orange track. In this class you’ll take those tiny vehicles, modify them with found objects and doodads, thus transforming them into souped up little shrines. Using techniques such as assemblage, collage, and painting you will create icons from pop icons. But wait, these are not just cute little wall hangings...you will also be able to race them. In fact, at the end of class we’ll do just that...I’ll have some track set up and we’ll have the Indy 500 of the Artworld. The fastest shrine wins a deMeng Holy Roller. By the way, you don’t have to be a guy to play with toy cars.

Instructor will provide:
Power Tools
Basic Tools
Hot Wheels Track to race on
Extra Hot Wheels
A plethora of found objects and dodads.

Supply List:
Scissors and cutting tools
Drawing tools- pens, pencils, pastels etc
Brushes (acrylic) - smaller and detail
Acrylic Matte Medium – or any adhesive for collage
Paint (acrylic- small tubes): Black, White, Quinacridone Gold, Pthalo Green, and other basic colors
A few different kinds of glues- E 6000 and Liquid Nails original formula (red tab on label)
Small do dads, found objects, collage items and photos
A couple of Hot Wheels Cars

Bring various items that you would like to use on your shrine - this could be anything! - (jewelry, fake flowers, price tags, watch parts, shoelaces, fake eyelashes etc.) As I said, anything. Remember, smaller objects or items that can be broken down would be most appropriate . We'll have a communal pile of do-dads that students are willing to share with others in the class...so, looks like it's time to clean out those dresser drawers
