I have always loved vintage cabinet cards. There is just something so magical yet mysterious about them. Soon after inheriting my grandparent’s home, I discovered a large shoe box full of family cabinet cards. I loved looking at the people in the pictures, especially of those that looked like sisters. I studied the clothes they were wearing, their shoes, the bows in their hair; many of them were holding hands. But what captured me most were their expressions.
Cabinet Card Sisters, my first project using the “sisters” cabinet cards, was published in the autumn 2009 Somerset Memories magazine. For those pieces I used soldered charms, but in this class we will be designing jewelry using beautiful, crystal clear resin charms. I will have available (for purchase from my private stash) a nice supply of resin charms, OR you can use one of those you might have created in my Watchfull Resin Charms class; as now it will become the focal in this jewelry project.
I will share an attachment method incorporating a favorite piece of brass filigree, to either a cuff or a piece of etched metal for a necklace. I will also demo a couple of favorite links I often use in my own jewelry designs, which will include my wrapped and stacked pearls and vintage buttons. Time permitting, clasp options will be discussed.
Kit Fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

- Patinas, Novocan Black Patina for Solder and Liver of Sulfur
- Fat Daddy or Heavy Duty Cutter (if needed to cut a pin back or clip off of a small vintage bauble)
- Dremel Tool & Wood Block & Safety Glasses
- Metal Chisels
- Latex Gloves
- Beading Mat

- Nickel Silver, Brass, or Copper Sheet Metal, 1 piece of 24 gauge, at least 2”x2”
- Rubber Stamps, Background Type (works best)
- StazOn Jet Inkpad, Black Only
- Permanent Marker, Black, Ultra-Fine Point
- French Shears, Metal Shears or Curved Shears (www.beaducation.com)
- Metal Jewelry File, Flat #2
- Metal Hole Punch Pliers, 1.8mm (Beaducation)
- Center Punch, 5/32” or ¼” (not automatic, Local Hardware Store)
- Metal Awl or Scribe (local hardware store)
- Flush Cutters
- Pliers, Chain-Nose, Flat-Nose, Long-Nose & Round-Nose
- Ball Peen Hammer
- Rubber or Rawhide Mallet
- Steel Ruler (Straight Edge) & Flexible Tape Measure
- 1/8” drill bit (sold individually at local hardware store)
- Stanley 6-Piece Precision Screwdriver Set (local hardware store or Amazon.com)

- Bench Pad or Rubber Bench Block
- Brass or Nickel Silver Component or Filigree (optional to layer behind resin charm on cuff)
Optional Supplies for Necklace:
- Vintage Two-Hole Buttons, Small (for wrapped & stacked button links)
- Baroque Pearls, Freshwater Pearls, Gemstones, Czech Glass Beads (your choice)
- Dangle Options: Charm, Vintage Rhinestone Dangle or Drop (perhaps from a screw back earring), Gemstone Briolette, Pearl Drop, Vintage Rhinestone Button
- Crystal Rondells, 4-6mm
- Sterling Silver (Half-Hard) or Bronze Wire, 4-6’ of 20-22 gauge (length depends on amount of wire wrapping you will do/gauge depends on type of gemstones or pearls you might use) and/or
- Sterling Silver or Brass (or your choice) Jump Rings, Eye Pins, Bead Caps
- Clasp or Sterling Silver Half-Hard Wire (or choice of wire to make your own clasp), 4”-18 gauge
