Join me in this inspiring hands on metals workshop to learn the ancient art form of fabrication and forging. Using sheet metal and heavy gauge wire, learn in depth techniques for dapping and doming to create deep hollow forms. Through the process of alternating hand hammering and annealing you will master your shape and the end form will be beautiful cup shapes with endless possibilities. We will fill these forms with resin,, patina, sticks, stones or any type of mixed media you desire.
Learn techniques for forging and flattening heavy gage wire to create rich architectural shapes for ring shank or jewelry shank.
Closure Techniques include silver soldering/ brazing, lashing and ideas for color and patinas.
Proper stance and posture for hammering.
Materials/Kit fee of $24 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- bronze sheet metal
- 8 gauge wire
- silver solder
- wire
- mixed media
- patina
- paper images
Students should bring:
- vice
- large ball peen hammer (to put into the vice and use as dapping die)
- flat hand hammer
- jewler's saw
- size 3 or 4 blades
- needle nose pliers
- flat nose pliers
- wire snips
- file
- drill if you have one
- bench pin
