Come join Encaustic Artist Linda McNulty as she guides you through the making of Encaustic Wearable Art! Encaustic Art is experiencing a revival among artists, since lying dormant in the Egyptian tombs. The process entails the painting and pouring of molten, pigmented beeswax and tree sap, which is then layered and scraped, revealing its naturally luminous and transparent nature. Encaustic is combined with the wearable form for the first time in Linda’s workshop.
In this workshop, she will walk you, step by step, through the process of creating a gorgeous word-shield made by pouring encaustic paints into bezel forms, painting its layers and scraping back, and finally playing on its surface with your own metallic script! The bezels will be attached and finished off with SLK goodies to create a true encaustic treasure.
The Kit fee of $45, payable to Instructor at class time, includes these SLK products: two small bronze hobnail-bezels, a neck wire, silk and metallic ribbons and findings to complete your necklace; and these consumable supplies: gloves, encaustic paint, encaustic medium, metallic transfer paper and various inks.
Instructor will provide: griddles, brushes; pouring, scraping and transferring tools to use in class.
Supply List:
- Mini butane torch (must be a mini)
- Needle-nose pliers
- A few Viva paper towels
