Don't throw away that old, non-working wristwatch…come to this class and turn it into a beautiful found object pendant similar to the example. The watchcase will serve as a bezel for holding some focal found object treasure you have been waiting to use in a special piece. The class will focus on cold connections and fabrication techniques that will result in a unique piece of wearable art.

    Supply list:

  • Bring one or more watch cases - men’s watches with an approximate 1 inch diameter work best. Disassemble the watch if you can and remove the watch mechanism inside. If you can’t get it apart, bring it class and we’ll attack it together. Hang on to the spring pins that hold the watch strap if you can.
  • Refer to the sample photos for ideas as to what objects you might want to bring to serve as a focal point for the piece. A vintage bottle cap works well. (If you can't find one, I will have some on hand to sell.) For a more 'steampunk' looking pendant, bring a watch mechanism. Any other found object that will fit inside the watch case opening will do fine.
  • Sheet metal – 22 or 24 gauge copper, nickel, sterling or brass approx. 4 inches x 4 inches.
  • A cabochon, bead or other found object for a 'dangle' is optional.
  • Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including round nose and flat nose pliers, files, wire cutters (flush cutters recommended)
  • Metal Cutting Shears
  • Small hammer for riveting
  • Jeweler’s saw and #4/0 or #2/0 blades
  • Bench Pin
  • Bench block or anvil
  • Optional:

  • Dremel or other rotary tool
  • “Gizmo” winding tool
