    This is a 9 hour workshop scheduled all in one day, 6 hour day plus 3 hour evening.

    Turquoise and silver jewelry has been a hallmark of the Southwest for well over 150 years. The combination of white silver and lovely blue turquoise has come to symbolize the beautiful skies of the Southwest. No other jewelry style is so closely tied to a particular geographical location. Now you can learn to create your own turquoise and silver jewelry in the Southwest Style.

    In this class students will learn the fabrication skills necessary to make one or more turquoise and silver rings. Several ring shank options will be demonstrated and discussed. This class will require some solder experience but the basics of soldering with silver solder will be reviewed. Experience in using a jeweler's saw will be helpful, but not essential. Because of the complexity of this project, an evening session will ensure that everyone has adequate time to complete at least one ring and give advanced students the opportunity to pursue additional projects or seek additional help.

    Materials fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • Silver Solder - flux
  • Silver Bezel wire
  • Propane/Oxygen
  • Pickle Solution
  • Supply List:

  • 24 or 22 gauge sterling silver sheet approx 1 1/2" x 2" (more if you plan to make more than one ring)
  • 14 gauge sterling silver round or half -round wire – approx 10 – 12 inches
  • 16 or 18 gauge round sterling silver wire – about 1 foot (for twisted wire rope)
  • Turquoise cabochon ( I will have some on hand to sell…prices will vary according to quality and size)  
  • Eye Protection
  • Ear Protection
  • Needle File Set – round, half-round, flat, triangle, etc.
  • Bench Pin or Vise
  • Jeweler’s saw and blades (size #4/0)
  • Soldering Pad
  • Solder Pick
  • Tweezers
  • Optional:

  • Magnifying glasses or visor
  • Butane Torch
