In this soldering basicz workshop, you will be introduced to the primary knowledge necessary to understand every aspect of the soldering process and advance your metalsmithing and creative know-how. In the morning you will receive an in-depth explanation of the curious equipment and tools essential to the task, and their safe operation, through demonstrations of the various soldering techniques and move to a hands-on exercise that will test and challenge you towards mastery of the technique throughout the afternoon.

Tools and Equipment (Air/Gas, Oxy/Gas), Soldering Innovations – Primary Techniques
(Stick, Pallion, Wire Fed, Sweat & Butt), Solder Engineering, The Heat Sink Phenomenon, Projects/Exercises (Melt It – Wire World).
Materials Fee of $24 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- 2 x 3” 22g brass
- 10g round brass wire
- 16g round silver; hard, medium, easy and x-easy solder
- Sawing diagrams
Supply List:
Many tools and equipment necessary for the course will be available for use in the class and also to purchase, but please bring personal jewelry-making hand tools and safety equipment if you have them. Example: Ball-peen hammer, bench block, bench pin, chasing hammer, cutters, diagonal wire cutters, flush-cut wire cutters, jeweler’s saw, metal files, metal ruler, optivisors, pen, pencils, plastic hammer, rawhide hammer, safety glasses, scissors.
