Learn basic metal smithing techniques and combine vividly colored fibers, wire, and charms to make this stunning necklace. Students will learn different ways to manipulate fibers into elements of a necklace, add charms and drops. In this workshop students will learn to cut metal shapes using a disc cutter, and saw, shape metal with a dapping block, anneal and finish metal. This class is ideal for those who would like to add metal smithing to their jewelry making techniques, as well as experienced jewelry makers who would like to experiment with natural fibers. Students will leave the workshop with new techniques to create their own unique pieces of art jewelry. For those who finish the necklace project there will be supplies available to make bracelets and earrings.
Supply list :
- Copper, brass, and steel wire – 18, 20, and 22 gauge, non-coated
- Sheet brass and/or copper – 22 gauge, 6” x 6”
- Beads, charms, small found objects
- Natural fibers and ribbon
- Silk Sari Ribbon
Tool list:
- Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including round nose and flat nose pliers, files, wire cutters
- Small hammer
- Hole punch pliers – 1.25mm or 1.80 mm
- Ruler or tape measure
