Midnight Lanterns

Type of Workshop: Project - Project will be mostly completed in class
Weave a cage to capture a cascade of caps and beads to culminate in a magical midnight lantern. Basketweave a bail that transcends into a cage. Texture and form caps to add dimension and facets. Stack caps, beads and spacers inside the cage and embellish for a magical midnight lantern that is sure to fascinate everyone.
The variations on this project are endless!Kit Fee of $50 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- Copper & Bronze wire
- 27” 18 Gauge Bronze wire for armature
- 12 ft 24 gauge copper wire for weaving
- 2 ft 18 gauge Bronze
- Focal bead or beads (here the possibilities are endless) I will bring many options for the kit choice
- Complimentary beads to adorn the lantern
- Copper discs as needed for the design (24 gauge, varying sizes that depend on the bead(s) that are chosen)
- Caps or spacers of varying sizes to alternate with the beads
Instructor provides for student's use in class: an assortment of Fretz texturing hammers, 1.25 hole punch, Dapping block &Punches, Utility hammers
Tools to bring:
- Round, chain and flat nose pliers, flush cutters,
- Chasing hammer, pounding block & pad,
- utility hammer
- fine tip sharpie
- ruler & tape measure
- Emery Board 180/100 grit
- polishing cloth
- handheld holepunch 1.25 MM
Optional Tools:
- Dapping block & punches optional
- Texturing hammers ( Fretz)
