    Lovely and useful, this bold pendant with its built in magnifying lens is a stylish way to read tags and labels while shopping. In this workshop students will fabricate a Lookie-Loo pendant from etched sheet copper and make an embellished chain to hang it. Techniques and skills covered in the class will include: chemical etching of copper, basic metal smithing techniques, use of various cold connections, using the jeweler's saw, chain and clasp making techniques, design problem solving, and safety considerations.

    Students will leave the with a completed pendant and searching in a handbag for the reading glasses will be a thing of the past.

    Materials fee of $8 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • screws
  • rivets
  • etching chemicals
  • magnifying lens
  • polishing papers
  • rubber stamps and ink
  • miscellaneous supplies
  • Supply list :

  • Sheet copper – 22 gauge, 6” x 6” sheet
  • Brass and/or copper wire – 18 and 20 gauge, non-coated for chain
  • Beads, charms, small found objects
  • Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including round nose and flat nose pliers, files, wire cutters
  • Small hammer
  • Jeweler's saw
  • Bench block or small anvil
  • Hole punching pliers (1.8 mm) or small hand drill
  • Small metal file
  • Dapping block set – hardwood is good
  • Eye Protection and Apron
  • Latex/vinyl gloves
