Fold Forming

In this class students will gain a clear understanding of work hardening metals, the annealing process, and using fold forming as a texturing technique. The instructor will provide demonstrations and assistance in the process of at least 6 different folding techniques and show examples of how each can be used in finished products. Given the amount of time used working on individual folds, some students may leave class with wearable products.
This is a techniques class, students will walk away with many samples of techniques made in class that can be later used in finished pieces.
Materials Fee of $25 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- written instructions for each fold done in class
- all the metals to be used in each fold
- all consumables used in class such as fuel, pickle, liver of sulfur, sanding sponges, 0000 steel wool
Instructor will provide all tools and equipment to be used in class. Each pair of students will be provided with a tool box to share. In this box students will find: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, square nose pliers, wire cutters, metal sheers, an anvil, marker, annealing pan with pumice, torch and fuel, spring loaded punch, drill bits, reamers, ball peen hammer, soft blow hammer, carpenters bench vise, quench bowls, copper tongs, cross locking tweezers, kitchen knife, files, sanding sponges, jewelers saw, saw blades, bench pin, c-clamp, jumpring cutting jig, bee’s wax. As a class, students will be required to share: texture hammers, design stamps, forming hammers, boardering hammers, bracelet bending pliers, pickle pots and if room permits a rolling mill and texture plates.
