Cryptic Encaustics
Saturday eve $75 Linda McNulty 6:30-9:30
Student Level: Beginner
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
Come join Encaustic Artist Linda McNulty as she guides you through the making of Encaustic Wearable Art! Encaustic Art is experiencing a revival among artists, since lying dormant in the Egyptian tombs. The process entails the painting and pouring of molten, pigmented beeswax and tree sap, which is then layered and scraped, revealing its naturally luminous and transparent nature. Encaustic is combined with the wearable form for the first time in Linda’s workshop.
In this workshop, Linda will walk you, step by step, through the process of creating two gorgeous pendants, made by stamping warm, pigmented encaustic medium with metal and wooden objects which, when partially scraped back, encrypt secret messages onto the pendant! This workshop is kept short to cut down on costs, so you can finish them off after the workshop any way you like.
The Kit fee of $45, payable in Instructor at class time includes these SLK products: two large bronze hobnail-bezels; and these consumable supplies: gloves, encaustic paint, encaustic medium
Instructor will provide for use in class : griddles, brushes; pouring, scraping and stamping tools.
Supply List:
- a mini butane torch (must be a mini)
- a few Viva paper towels
