Beginning Soldering; Making a Cabachon Ring

Learn soldering skills from a professional jeweler who has over 30 years experience in metalsmithing. In this class students learn how to use a jeweler’s saw, silver soldering using acetylene torches, basic stone setting skills setting a cabochon stone, and polishing metal.
Kit Fee of $30.00 to Instructor at class time includes: Cabochon stone 18 x 13 mm, 3” double half round sterling silver wire, 3” fine silver bezel wire, Black patina, easy, medium, and hard silver solder, soldering flux, pickle solution, 3 jeweler saw blades, small band tie, sandpaper 400, 600 grits, and printed handouts.
Supplies provided by the teacher: Use of 4 acetylene torches, torch stands, fireproofing for table top, soldering boards, soldering tweezers, third hands, pickle pot, copper tongs, solder sheers, bench pin, C-clamp, bench vice, ring mandrel, ring size gauges, solder pick, rawhide mallet, Drill bits - various sizes (I will bring to class), flex shaft, drill, striker, 4-small bowls of water, fire extinguisher, annealing pan, soldering stand, cleaning brush, green scrubby, liquid soap, flux brushes, boric acid and denatured alcohol solution, extension cords, silver black with brush, paper towels.
