Mandala Enameled Pendant

Tuesday $135
Melissa Manley 9:00 am to 4:30 pm

Student Level: All welcome - some sawing experience beneficial
Type of Workshop: Process and Project

Like glassy lace this Mandala pendant is loads of fun to make. If sawing is not your forte, you may change your mind! Just like meditating on a mandala, the process of making our pendant will be a therapeutic journey as we get lost in the rhythm of sawing out a pattern on copper. Sawing experience will probably make things go faster for you, but is not necessary. If you’re a total beginner come try your hand! I have had great success helping people learn to love this essential jeweler’s tool. Once our mandala is ready we’ll torch fire it with vitreous glass enamel powders. So if you’ve not yet tried enamel, now is your chance to watch this magical transformation of color through fire.

Kit Fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes: enamels, klyrfire, and use of torches and pickle

Instructor will provide the following items for use during class: enamels and enamelling supplies, torches, patina, pickle

Supply/Tool List: (click on items for resource link)

  • Jeweler’s saw and saw blades I prefer #3/0
  • A bench pin I like this one
  • A small piece 3”x3” or smaller of 18ga or 20ga copper sheet- Thinner gauges will not be sturdy enough. You can purchase sheets from most jewelry supplies or here
  • Jump rings and a necklace or ribbon, or choker to put your pendant on
  • Battery powered hand drill and small drill bits I like this inexpensive little drill bit kit
  • 3M Sanding pads- these are large and I usually cut them into quarters. Available lots of places, but definitely here. I use superfine, microfine, and ultrafine. They have a big set, but it has grits I don’t use.
  • Small Jewelry files- I have some of these in a fine cut and they’re fabulous! Some are available here
