This is a 12 hour workshop held on two days.

This workshop offers the opportunity to explore the design concepts and fabrication techniques important to an assemblage approach to jewelry making. FOS introduces an unusual cold connection system from which students can extrapolate other jewelry engineering solutions. Mann will lead workshop participants in an in-depth creation of their own found object creations. Students are encouraged to bring photographs (old, new or magazine) and found-objects such as buttons, heirloom jewelry or stuff they find in the street or in nature, or industrial materials (chain, electronic parts, etc.) to incorporate in the design and fabrication of a personal wearable expression.

Kit Fee of $45 payable to Instructor at class time: From one of Tom's most popular workshops,
the Found Object Sandwich kit comes with all of the materials needed to make your own collage assemblage brooch.
Add your own found objects & image. Kit includes:

  • FOS Manual
  • 1 3" x 4" piece of 1/16" acrylic.
  • 1 3" x 4" piece of patterned brass.
  • 1 3" x 4" piece of 22g sheet metal.
  • 10 each nuts, bolts, washers, copper rivets.
  • 1 pin back and stem

Supply/Tool List (many of these items will be for sale in class or you can purchase in advance from our website):

  • Photographs – old ones, new ones, magazine images. Very Important Note: If you want to make very personalized pins that that tell family history stories or celebrate family members bring your ORIGINAL photographs.  I will scan them, resize them, and print them for use in your pins.  
  • Little bits – buttons, heirloom jewelry parts, stuff found in the street, odd materials such as plastics, wood, chain, electronic parts, etc. Start looking for stuff on the streets and sidewalks wherever you go — Little bits of cultural ephemera
  • Jewelers saw (preferably a 6" depth frame) and saw blades  2/0's especially
  • Pliers (round, flat, needle, and most importantly....a Full Flush cutter.. Your other jewelry making hand tool
  • Rivet hammer
  • Rawhide hammer or fiber face hammer
  • Medium steel wool (this will be provided at no charge)
  • Bench block (so you don't have to use the community tool)
  • If you own a flexible shaft machine…bring it.
