In this workshop I'll teach you how I create my beautiful handmade journals. These journals are just like the ones I use, only on a smaller scale. They are perfectly sized to take with you on any adventure. Use them as your very own hand-bound sketchbook/journal/keeper of all visual and written ideas, observations, and inspirations. During the day you will learn about the different parts of a book; glue, sand, drill and cover the book covers with your decorative papers; create the book blocks; and while the books are drying in the book presses, we will practice the Coptic Headband stich; and finally start binding the book with my unique binding technique. During the evening, we will finish the spine-binding and then add the beautiful Coptic Headbands. Book Kits include most all of the supplies needed to make the book.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

  • $25 includes:
  • Pre-cut Book Boards
  • Pre-cut Stonehenge paper for book block
  • Assortment of waxed binding threads
  • Assortment of beads
  • Ribbons straps for binding
  • Instruction booklet
  • *Instructor will have additional book kits available for purchase*

  • Cups for water
  • Paste and Glue
  • Wax Paper and scrap/newsprint paper
  • Water containers

You will need at a minimum 2-3 sheets (coordinating colors/patterns) = 8.5x11 (one for the covers, one for the end pages, and the leftovers used for the decorative signature covers) HOWEVER, if you want to have a little more fun and play with different paper combinations feel free to bring more paper choices.
  • Excato Knife
  • Metal Ruler
  • Small Self-Healing cutting board
  • Pencil or Pen
  • Hog-hair bristle brush for applying glue (large round), and smaller one for tight areas
  • Paper Awl
