Tina Ferguson

Tina is the founder, owner and head teacher of the award winning senior art education company, Artsy Smartsy, the largest for-profit senior art provider in both Arizona and Minnesota, bringing monthly art classes in all art mediums to seniors of all ages and abilities. She also is the Executive Director of HeARTsy, a non-profit 502.c3 which brings free art classes to orphans, troubled youth, streams, developmentally disabled and families at risk in Phoenix. Artsy Smartsy began in Minnesota over 11 years ago and now includes over 500 seniors who reside in assisted living, memory care, veterans homes, group homes, Parkinson's day programs, hospitals and community library programs. Half of her students suffer from Parkinson’s and Dementia.

Tina was the recipient of the 2019 Phoenix Mayor's art award for her creative work with these underserved populations in Arizona. Tina recently won the Phoenix Mayor's art award in the doer/maker category for her work with seniors and other underserved arts communities. As an artist, Tina is blessed to have a mother as her lifelong artist inspiration. She has taught classes in mosaics, felting, painting, clay, jewelry making, silk painting, Japanese brush painting, and multimedia of all types. With 45 years of daily art making and a Master's degree in Architecture from ASU, Tina has made art and design a lifelong passion.

Tina has spent years volunteering on committees with Minnesota's MNCANN (now called ArtSAGE), Edina Professionals serving seniors (EPSS), Minnesota Art in Healthcare Network (MAIHN), and Arizona's Justa center, AZ East Valley Committee on Ageing, The Arc of Tempe, The Bridge for Community Service and for her church, Without Walls. in Mesa. She is the only Arizona visual artist who has been trained at both the highly accredited National Center for Creative Ageing Center in NYC and the AZ Create Change AZ Conference in 2017. She spoke at the 2018 NYC National Conference and was on a panel educating others on best practices in the industry. Tina regularly speaks to healthcare professionals on the benefits of arts and ageing. In 2017 she spoke at the 20th annual Arizona's Assisted Living Federation of America(ALFA) conference, the Annual Arizona Senior Center Association Conference in Prescott, West Vally Coalition on Ageing (WVCOA), North Valley Coalition on Ageing (NVCOA) and the Annual Minnesota Struther's Park Nicolette Parkinson's Center conference on the Benefits of Arts and Ageing.
