This is NOT smashing it, nope, and its definitely NOT hammering it, this is….FORGING!
Let Thomas Mann give you an introduction to the way metal can move, not unlike clay, when specialized hammers are applied strategically.

Forging Basics: The tools, The Technique, The Potentials

Basic Kit:
(will make bracelet pictured in silver but in brass, in addition to others):
8” 8g round copper wire
10” 8g round brass wire
18” 12g round brass wire
18” 14g round brass wire
6” 16g round brass wire
1 bead

Option #2 - $55
Sterling Option (will make bracelet pictured in silver, in addition to others):
8” 8g round copper wire

Student should bring:
Make sure to bring your notebook and if you have them, your own basic set of metalsmithing tools:
pliers
jeweler’s saw
files and rivet
chasing hammers.

All of the tools that are peculiar to the techniques we will be exploring will be provided for use in class, as well as for purchase. If you have your own planishing hammer or bracelet mandrels, feel free to bring them with you!
