    Combine the power of words with the beauty of art in your watercolor art journal. This workshop will focus on how to build rich and seemingly complex pages and textured backgrounds for text, words, mini collages, photos, poetry and other artistic endeavors. Starting with a simple drawing, Jacqueline will demonstrate how she uses different shapes and page design to create an interesting journal page. Using gesso, watercolor, pens and markers, you will incorporate watercolor paintings with your journaling on colorful backgrounds, as each journal page will become a work of art.

Materials fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes use of:
  • Small watercolors palettes for students to use so if you do not have paints don't feel like you have to spend a lot of money to invest in them
  • Artist tape
  • Golden Fluid acrylic paint – iridescent gold and iridescent copper, black, white
  • Colored markers
  • Sakura 3-D pen
  • Alphabet stamps and Stazon black stamp pads
  • Gesso, white and black
  • Letter stencils

    Students should bring:
  • Your watercolor supplies, if you have them, including your watercolor paints, palette and brushes or consider my DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor Jacqueline Newbold Traveling Kit. Here are a few of the colors I recommend if you do not have the kit: new gamboge, hansa yellow, Winsor red, permanent rose, phthalo blue, and cerulean blue.
  • Watercolor paper, Arches 140 Cold Pressed or an Arches® Watercolor Book 140lb, 10in x 7in
  • A drawing pencil and kneaded eraser
  • Permanent ink pen
  • Water container
  • Washcloth or sponge
  • Small scissors
  • A few photo references from your fun vacations that you would like to paint

    Optional:
  • Some of your favorite stamps and inkpads, alphabet stamps, and stencils are great for embellishing pages
  • Sharpie oil-based paint fine point or your favorite colored markers
