Abstract Trees

Trees are an essential part of the ecology of planet Earth. Artists have depicted trees in their work for centuries. In this workshop, our trees will be abstracted in their shape and colors. Emphasis will be placed on the tonal relationships of dark on light, and light on dark. Carol will demo several techniques she uses for her fantastic tree paintings. You will make bark-like trunks with molding paste, fantastic foliage with course pumice gel and crackle paste, and you will use a variety of papers to add texture, and create vibrant, colorful landscapes. Expect to create two or more paintings.
Materials fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
Watercolor paper
Burlap
Corrugated paper
MDF boards
Course pumice gel
and the use of Instructor's supplies during workshop:Modeling compound
Crackle paste
Golden Fluid Acrylics
Gesso
A variety of specialty papers
Blue painters tape
YES paste
Students should bring:Scissors
Flat 1 inch brush (for watercolor and acrylic)
Selection of smaller brushes
Palette, water container, spray water bottle, paper towels
Additional supports (6x6, 6x8, or 8x10) if you’re a fast worker
