Shape Shifters
Tuesday 9:00 - 4:30 $145 Mary Beth Shaw
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
Geometric shapes meet up with organic shapes in this free form painting class. We will work to create a small series of paintings. If you have ever wanted to start a 'Body of Work', this is your chance as I share my tips for working across multiple paintings at the same time. We will simulate my usual studio approach for prepping, creating interesting foregrounds and then pulling it all together at the end. Working largely with analogous colors, we will explore how to make a piece 'pop' with intensity by exploiting the darks and lights and also adding a contrasting punch of color. No texture, no collage - this class is all about the paint! Join me as I help you move your abstract paintings to the next level.
Kit fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- acrylic paints
- stencils
- templates
- Inktense pencils
- Scribbles
- inks
- stick
- skewers
Students should bring:
- 4 square canvases (canvas panel is ok) no larger than 10x10
- a couple of painting brushes (one smallish angle brush plus another larger flat brush)
- water container
- spray bottle
- palette (paper plates or palette paper)
- pencil
- baby wipes
- We will be working with analogous colors, so bring 2 favorite acrylic paints that appear next to each other on the color wheel (I'll bring the rest).
- Plan on wearing an apron & possibly gloves, we will be messy.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions regarding color selection.
