Unleash metal wire's potential to create freeform jewelry designs that are delightfully imperfect and organic. Metalsmithing techniques include using a torch to draw a bead, forging, annealing, patina and wirewrapping. Learn how to create your own clasps, closures and findings, which will not only save you money in the long run but also give you the satisfaction of creating wearable art where every component is made by hand. Finish one bracelet and a pair of earrings or a handmade chain and a pair of earrings.

Materials/Kit Fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

• 18-gauge bronze wire
• 20-gauge bronze wire
• 18-gauge nickel silver wire
• 20-gauge nickel silver wire
• jump rings
• patina
• Use of rolling torches

Students should bring:

• ball peen hammer
• steel bench block
• needle nose pliers
• flat nose pliers
• round nose pliers
• wire snips
• file
• fine steel wool or green kitchen scrubbie
• baby wipes

Note: If you want to make your jewelry in sterling silver, you'll need to bring at least 3-ft of sterling wire 18 and 20 gauges, available at local jewelry supply stores or online at Rio Grande. Be sure to also bring 10 mm sterling jump rings.
