Wax + Paper II Thursday 9 - 4:30 $135 Michelle Belto
Student Level: Beginning to Intermediate depending on prior encaustic experience
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
If you are taking this class as a part II class, you will be using the lovely supports you worked on in the earlier class Wax + Paper I as well as those that will be supplied. If you are taking this class independently of the papermaking class, don’t worry, you will be provided dried paper supports to learn the encaustic techniques of creating luminous layers. We will apply various encaustic processes to the paper supports you were given or had created earlier, including wax and oil glazes, dry brush accretions, pouring and embedding and photo transfer. Throughout the workshop you will see demonstrations in encaustic technique, be able to get your own hands in the wax, and have ample time to create completed works.
Kit fee of $30 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- 1 wet sheet of paper for wrapping
- 1 (5" x 7") ½” support and 3/8” foam core pieces for making a dimensional support
- 1 (8" x 10"prepared deckled support (shrine)
- 1 (5" x 7") prepared wrapped support
- pair of latex gloves
- wax paper for taking home completed work
- bleeding tissue papers

The teacher will actually supply all of the materials for the class, but students might want to personalize their work by bringing some of the following items.
- 4”X 4” image for the shrine. This can be abstract or personal. General images from traditional art, magazine images and other images will be available for use to learn the technique. Note images that will be available for use from the teacher may be copyright protected and should not be used if the created work is planned to be sold, published or displayed.
- If you have any of the glazing medium, wet or dry media that you would like to bring in order to have your preferences of colors available, feel free to do so. Supplies provided by the teacher will be shared materials.
