Learn how to use the magic tool every artist should have, the Amazing Dremel. Learn to drill, cut, carve, etch, shape, polish, and grind craft materials and non-traditional book making materials. There are 2 Dremel classes, this one is about working with hard materials. Materials we will play with include glass, ceramic tile, rusted steel, and copper or brass. You will use numerous different bits for different purposes and effects. As you play you will be making pages for your sample book. After taking both Dremel classes your material options for your art will limitless.
Kit fee of $40 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- Wood case containing 228 various bits for working most materials.
- All the precut materials for class (glass, tile, metals, etc.)
- Materials needed to compile completed pieces into a book - pages, cover, spine, binding device.
- Misc supplies and tools to use and sample.
- Note: This fee cover an extensive bit kit that is used in both classes, if taking both classes, the second class materials fee is $15
Students should bring:
- multiple speed Rotary Tool (Dremel) (see handout for more tool info)
- exacto knife, pencil, ruler, fine point felt marker, china marker or wax pencil - any color
- tape, scotch or masking
- dust mask
- protective glasses or goggles
- spongy ear plugs.
- cutting mat or dense cardboard, med to large
- simple designs, art or graphics for 4” square materials
Optional things you may want: - rubber stamps & ink (to transfer the design to your materials)
- decorative paper to cover 2 - 5" square boards (both sides)
- acrylic paint, small - medium brushes, water container
- any unusual materials you want to experiment with
- any Dremel bits you may have (but you don’t need to buy any)
- Note: Most people have found the flex shaft attachment to be highly desirable.
I will have a few Dremel items for sale in class, likely to include:
- Dremel collet wrench. You can’t work without one!
- Collets set of 4 sizes, You need at least one.
- Dremel Chucks
- Flex shaft (please pre-order)
- Work station/Drill press (please pre-order)
- Misc. bits
- I might have used Dremels for sale
