Do you find yourself forever on the hunt for things that inspire you to create?
Looking for new ways to expand your artwork? Are you a collector of items that you’re not quite sure how to incorporate into your work? In this workshop you will lean how to use a wooden cigar box or a piece of wood that will become an extension of your art as we explore various collage and painting techniques. Learn how you can incorporate wire and hand sewing into your artwork in place of glues and adhesives. You will discover how to incorporate found objects into your collaged surfaces using various techniques such as using nails and drilling holes into your substrate surface to attach these elements.
Supplies provided by the instructor:
- Nails
- Batting
- Drill and drills bits (bring your own if you prefer not to wait to use)
Students should bring:
- Wood: this will be your base so bring the size you want to work with 6x6 would be great also keep in mind that the wood need to be at least one or two inches thick to accommodate nails and tacks a cigar box can also be use.
- Acrylic Paint (at least 3 colors)
- White or black gesso
- Gel medium (any kind, I use matte)
- Pallet knife
- Brushes (I use the cheap bristle or foam ones)
- Nails and tacks (old rusty ones or various sizes of new ones both small and large found in hardware stores)
- Hammer
- Fabric (scraps)
- Lace
- Perle Cotton or embroidery floss (a few colors)
- Perle cotton needle
- Fine gauge wire (24 gauge)
- Picture hanger (of your choice for the wood)
- Book text or collage papers
- Various things such as: Beads, buttons, sticks.
- Any dimensional items you may want to use in your art.
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Sandpaper
