This is a great class for both beginners and those of you who have already dipped you iron into the basics of soldering. This is a great way to display family photos. Each house can be home to different generations of your family or makes the perfect showcase for pets. The techniques you learn in this class can be applied to numerous projects. The images you choose for your house will tell your own personal story. This is both a process and project workshop with the emphasis being on soldering technique.
You will learn how to cut glass, solder dimensional pieces, and patina solder. You will also learn how to tack solder pieces together to create larger dimensional works of art.
Kit Fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- Precut glass
- Precut Aluminum siding
- Copper tape
- Solder
- Precut and stamped pencils
Supplies Provided by Instructor:
- Flux and flux brush
- Soldering iron
- Rheostat
- Plastic Clamps
- Weights
- Soldering stands
- Solder patina
- Basic tools
Students should bring:
- Pencil
- X-acto Knife w/ extra blades
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Double sided tape
- Metal Ruler
- Bone Folder
- Cutting Surface
- Self Clamping Tweezers
- Images (one dimensional): Bring an assortment of images, ephemera, transparencies, etc. This is what will make the project your own. You need to have one base image for each section of glass. Make sure each base image is approximately 1/4" larger around the perimeter of the glass dimensions. Do not cut images prior to class. Images will be cut down to size in class. Remember the front and back of the house have an angled roof top. The dimensions below will give you an idea of image placement and overall size.
- House topper: 1” h x 3 1/16” w
- Roof 2 images: 3 1/16” w x 1 1/2” h
- Sides 2 images: 3” w x 2” h
- Front: 3” h x 2” w Square area of the front is 2” x 2”
- Back: 3” h x 2” w Square area of the back is 2” x 2”
- 3 photos of samples in jpeg format, 200 dpi, largest side = 600 pixels
