Alternative Surfaces & Textures Sunday 9 - 4:30 $145 Sandra Duran Wilson
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Process but will finish one piece in class
|
This class will liberate your paintings from the traditional canvas. There are so many wonderful and innovative surfaces to paint on including Clayboard, Plexi, plastic, Yupo, Lutradur and Duralar. These may sound like alien life forms but believe me they are easy and fun. I will teach you many of the techniques from my bestselling book, Surface Treatment Workshop and we will experiment, explore and go beyond where the book left off. When the same resist and additive techniques are used on various surfaces you get a wide range of results. Absorbency and transparency are our guides we weave our way through all the levels from clay to plastic.
Yupo paper is a synthetic paper that you can do about anything to and it won’t buckle. It is also great for transfers and skins. Duralar is another material that gives amazing results with reverse painting and it works great in collage. Lutradur is a fabric that is stiff and makes an interesting surface for our crazy easy transfer painting. Clayboard has a wonderful absorbent nature that is beautiful to work on and it takes to transfers like ducks to you know what. You will add so many new tools to your repertoire and come away with a whole new vision of surfaces you can use that nothing will be safe from your paintbrush.
