This is a 1 1/2 day workshop (9 hours).
Did you know the ancient Greek word for "butterfly" is psyche, which primarily means "soul" or "mind"? We will create a soulful two-sided mixed media necklace using real butterfly wings that are forever preserved in ICE Resin, a two-part epoxy jeweler's grade resin that never fades or yellows. Students will learn how to properly mix and successfully work with resin, as well adding inclusions. We will also be making resin paper beads, as well as working with bronze sheet to create a stunning handmade metal-and-fiber bail to hang our pendent from. Other techniques include proper attachment of metal wire to fiber, texturing of metal, annealing, forging, as well as making wire wrapped links for a handmade chain.
Supplies provided by Instructor include: a pair of real butterfly wings, bronze sheet metal, bronze hobnob bezel, resin, measuring cups, stirrer sticks, recycled silk sari, 16, 18, and 20-gauge bronze wire, brass jump rings, use of torch, gas and flexible shaft, paper to make resin beads.
