Ever thought of digitally printing on a beverage can and incorporating it into your art work? Well here is your chance.
This is a 2 part process/project workshop. First will be complete instructions on how to prepare cans for successful printing, with full written instructions. There will be a demo and hands on prep for the cans to understand how to complete this process later on your own. This will allow you to take this process home to your inkjet printer and print your own images on cans. (You will ultimately need a straight path printer for this process.)
As we start the next phase of the workshop, we will use the pre-printed cans from your kit to assemble your project . Making little elements and/or objects with the printed cans from your kit, we will learn the ins and outs of construction. Follow your own inspiration, or use step by step instructions to build your creation.
It is amazing how many ways this surface can be used to add interest to your art, mixed media work and journals. We will explore many ideas and assemblage techniques for you to go ahead with this process. Join us and be inspired to recycle beverage cans in a unique artsy context.
Kit fee of $15 payable to Instuctor at class time includes: 7 preprinted cans. You will get a choice of kits. There will be a variety to choose from.
Supplies provided by Instructor: A stash of items to use in your creation, Samples of items to make with your cans, Curved needles you can borrow if you need them for your creation, Empty cans to prepare a can for printing.
Supply list:
- Hole punch, 1/16” ( you can get a cheap one at Wal Mart, but if you want to work with this process it may be better to get one that has a longer reach so you can punch further from the edge.
- Scissors that cuts metal, a good utility scissors will usually cut the can thickness.
- Waxed linen or waxed polyester thread, one color (contact me if you need help with finding this product)
- Curved needles for waxed thread (optional if you want to borrow mine).
- Assorted beads size 6 or larger
- 1 spool of wire 22 to 26 gauge
- You can bring little things to incorporate with the cans, or you can use my stash of items. If you bring your own, you won't need much. Just a little baggie of stuff. I will have fabrics and little elements you can take and use in your creations. There will be plenty for the size of what you will be working on.
