Etched Copper and “Bone” Bracelet

In this class students will be learning several jewelry making techniques that can be transferred to their own projects. We will cover how to etch copper with designs made using both rubber stamps and copy-machine transfer techniques. Then we will explore the use of readily available and inexpensive PVC to simulate bone as an element in jewelry.
A Supply fee of $3 is payable to instructor at class time and includes all supplies needed for this workshop.
Tool list:
Basic jewelry making tools will be needed, including:
Round nose, & flat nose pliers
Nylon jaw pliers
Wire cutters (flush cutters recommended) suitable for cutting iron wire…don’t use your best cutters … inexpensive, heavy-duty wire cutters and needle-nose pliers are available at Lowes, Ace Hardware and Home Depot.
Small ball peen hammer
Riveting hammer or chasing hammer…once again, for use on iron wire.
Anvil or Bench block (bring something for dampening the hammering noise such as a shot bag or towel)
Small portable table vise (the type that clamps onto a table…the 3 inch variety is fine and available at Home Depot or Lowes)
Drill (hand or cordless power type) and 1/16 inch drill bit.
Jeweler’s saw and #2 blades
Bench Pin for holding work while sawing.
Rotary hand tool (such as Dremel or Foredom) with a variety of grinding and polishing bits.
Hand files and sandpaper (320, 400, 600 wet/dry type…one sheet of each will suffice)
Saftety Glasses and dust masks
Crafter’s heating tool (like those used for stamp embossing…..like a hair dryer but hotter)
Work Gloves
Optional : carving tools, knives, metal stamping tools or leather stamping tools…anything that could be used to add patterns or texture to the PVC material. Bring some favorite rubber stamps that you want to use for the etched pattern.
