Altered Imagery: the Mixed Media Portrait

The mixed media portrait is a fun and inspiring way of reinterpreting the portrait regardless of your drawing skills. Using magazine images, color laser copies and/or black & white copies of your own photos we will alter these images in a painterly way using paints and pens. Portrait will be mounted on canvas board.
Supplies provided by Instructor: a variety of collage scraps and paints
Supply List:
5 - 6 large approx. 8 1/2 “x 11”, bold portraits (can be magazine images, xeroxes or color laser copies of photographs)
A fashion or cultural magazine so you have a variety of images available (if you like)
(3) 11”x13” Canvas Boards
A selection of acrylic paints, including white (other colors are up to you)
A crylic gel medium (your choice of gloss or matte)
Set of gelly roll glaze pens- be sure there is a black pen in the set
Small, medium& large paint brushes (sm for detail, med for backgrounds & lg for gel medium)
Pencil (any type of pencil will work, I like to work with 6B & 8B)
Optional: a selection of collage paper scraps, gel markers- galaxy markers & foohy gel markers work well, other embellishments...
