Create an enchanting portrait of a songbird that is sure to be a most cherished keepsake. Based on the work seen in the 2007 July/August issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors by artist, Tracie Lyn Huskamp, this workshop combines methods for sketching an image onto fabric, working with and mixing acrylic paints to develop your subject, and capture important details of such delicate creatures, along with exploring ways of distressing fabric to make interesting backgrounds.
Using plain muslin, you will learn a fast and easy way of drawing your image onto a fiber surface. This sketch will serve as a guide to aid in bringing your bird to life by using simple acrylic paints. You will also learn how to extract your subject from its fiber support giving you options for placing your painting onto a completely different background. In addition, we will explore unique methods for distressing fabric to turn a plain backgrounds into a work of art. Finally, composing from gathered words and verses a beautiful portrait of nature will emerge that is sentimental, heart-felt, and personal.
