Poetry in Motion; Painting as Poetry $130
Katie Kendrick
Student Level: All levels
Type of workshop:Process and Project

Let your heart and hand guide you, as you swish and swirl puddles of paint, birthing a poem or story into being with your paintbrush and pens. If you feel constrained and uptight when you paint, if you've never painted before and are afraid to try, if you tend to be a perfectionist when you create, or if you just want to loosen up and be freer when you work, than this may be the class for you. We will experiment and explore a variety of mixed media techniques using intuition as our guide, playing, suspending our judgments, and cultivating our innate child-like curiosity, our internal birthright. With no end result in mind, we will observe and listen as our creation guides itself into being, possibly even leaving us an additional breadcrumb trail of words, poetry, or short story which we will document as well. Students will leave with two completed or nearly completed paintings on wood, each lightly coated with beeswax.

Kit Fee of $15 payable to instructor at class time includes: wood supports, paint rag, sandpaper, as well as use of instructor's supplies including gesso, acrylic paints, polymer medium, text and collage fodder, pallet, heat gun, and beeswax.
