Dees' Reliquary or O Mother Where Art Thou? $130
Donna Engstrom
Student Level: Beginner to Advanced

Type of Workshop: Project

Get ready for a mixed media-construction frenzy! A beautiful piece to honor yourself, a loved one, or just to work in a whole new direction. The sample shown is an assemblage Donna created in honor of her mother who, in 1985, moved on to her next great adventure. Using a variety of wood boxes, you will build a tiered construction as the base for your assemblage. Donna will show you how to treat each box as an individual piece while maintaining a vision of a cohesive finished project. She will walk you step-by-step through the whole design process. The morning will be devoted to the construction and attaching process, as well as the painting of the boxes. In the afternoon, you will work on collaging and embellishing your boxes. A completed project is the goal but some students may need to complete the final assembly after class depending on the design they have chosen. Each reliquary will be unique to the artist; photos are samples of how a completed project might look.
