A Cardboard Visual Journal Price
Katie Kendrick $130
Student Level: All
Type of workshop: Process and Project

Come join us as we create an intimate and delicate visual journal using recycled cardboard and cheesecloth to form a small book filled with textured, chunky cardboard pages and intermixed with a variety of other pagers including watercolor paper, maps, and recycled papers. You will learn ways to bring out the texture of cardboard and ways to combine it with your own artwork, text, and photographs. We will practice quieting the inner critic, instead listening for the sound of our original and authentic voice as we experiment with numerous mixed media and collage techniques to create personal art, as well as document feelings, thoughts, and events in our lives, visually and/or with words. This project is based on the article in the Nov/Dec 2007 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine, entitled Collage Boards written by instructor.

Kit Fee of $15 payable to instructor at class time includes: a bundle of custom cut pages for the book (includes a variety of cardboard, watercolor paper, maps, recycled paper, and graph paper), foam brush, paint rag, text and assorted collage fodder, cheesecloth, cotton gauze, straw mesh, waxed linen, silk flower, string, and ribbon, as well as use of instructor's supplies including, soft gel matte medium, extra heavy gel medium, watercolors, tapestry needles, razor blades, waxed paper, instant coffee, stencils.
