Waxing Poetic

Learn how to create a collage entirely with beeswax - no other glues or adhesives are necessary! You'll learn beeswax transfers, stamping in wax, layering collage elements, transparency, glazing colors and more! This class is open to beginning-advanced students.

Supply List:

A small amount of collage paper and object items will be provided to create with, however please bring a few of your favorite things to work with for this class. Don't feel that you have to bring tons of stuff, but a nice variety will help. Please remember we plan to work in a small scale. So think no larger than about 8x10.

I will provide the beeswax, tools to work with the wax, a few paints and oil pastels to share, but it is often easier to work if you have your own materials. I suggest that you bring as many of the items below that you can to enhance your art making experience.

A box of crayons - any brand -I like the huge boxes of Crayola because they have so many amazing colors!

A nything you would like to use as your artmaking surface: pre-stretched canvas, canvas board, canvas paper (I like to use Fredrix brand canvases and canvas paper), cigar boxes, altoid tins, hard cover journals or any other support surface you would like.

Paint brushes about 2 or 3, any size. Buy cheap brushes if you don't have these already. No foam brushes please, they will fall apart with the wax.

Xacto knife or scissors

Xerox and color copies of old family photos - inkjet prints are OK. NOTE: Bring a variety of images in a variety of shapes and sizes. It's also good idea to bring images large enough to fill the canvas sizes you are bringing. It will help you have better composition if your images are large enough to fill 50% - 75% of your canvas surface.

A variety (about 10-15) of paper & small objects.

NOT required, but might be nice to have:

Heat gun or embossing gun. - I will have one or two for the class to share, but it is much easier if you have your own. Hairdryers aren't hot enough to melt the wax.

Extension cord - This is not a must, I will bring as many as I possibly can, but it always helps to have some extra. So if you have room in your bag, throw one in

Samsonite travel iron or other small iron with no holes in the bottom. The Clover Quilting iron works well too. It's small, looks like a curling iron with a triangle tip. I found mine at JoAnn Fabrics. This is OPTIONAL. I will have enough for everyone to share, but if you want your own, and don't want to have to share with your neighbor, please feel free to bring one.
