Textural Tactile Book
Date: Friday, August 27, 2004
Time: 9am – 4:30pm
Instructor: Traci Bunkers
Cost: $110

In this class, while exploring different techniques to create textures, we will turn simple canvas boards into beautifully textured journal covers. Then using the finished covers as the foundation, we will make a one-of-a-kind book. The covers will be an inspiration for you to later fill your book with wonderful artwork. The techniques we will play with are both 3-D and simply visual (2-D) from layering and manipulating different \ media such as gel medium, gesso, spackle and paint, and embedding papers and objects into the media. We will also use various, simple printing/stamping methods as a way of applying paint, shapes and designs. While the covers are drying, I'll teach you how to tear paper to create the signatures, and then we will sew the signatures to book cloth for the spine. These texture techniques aren't only for book covers, they can be used on anything from journal pages to shrines and assemblages. Plus, this type of creative play fuels the fire of "what if. . . ." and new ideas will be born!
