jewels of the east...this unique, handmade book is a collection of treasured personal images, papers and findings collected from my wanderings and travels through the open-air urban markets in Southeast Asia . The signatures are made up of gritty “fusion-dyed” collage covers layered with images and words. Learn how to create interesting black and white art with sumi ink, Xeroxed patterns, handwritten text and symbols in this Project workshop. Accents of distressed metals finish off the signatures of stained, deconstructed and texturized found papers that are bound with a funky woven and beaded macramé binding. This project is featured in my NEW book Collage Unleashed due out May 2006!

Acrylic paint & inks in your favorite colors
Scissors
Awl
Bone folder
2” flat brush, 1” foam brush
brayer
Waxed linen
Paper and sewing needle
Elmer's Glue – 16oz.
Golden regular gel medium glossy
Freezer paper (pre cut 10 sheets 18x20)
Beads and embellishments
Water container
2 tapestry needles
2 binder clips
2-ply paper towels (white-I use the Kirkland Brand from Costco)
metal ruler
painting smock  

Optional supplies to enhance your project:

Additional STUFF to personalize your book - Images - black & white photocopies of photos, writing, journal pages. Large patterns, symbols & letters work best. Tip: enlarge images on the Xerox copy machine to blow up into backgrounds for collage. I will provide plenty to use.
Unmounted deeply etched stamps (I will have plenty to share)
Heat gun if you have one, some will be provided to share
